Birds
Why solve the problem?
Considered by most
people to be one of natures most beautiful creatures, birds can
also be carriers of diseases that are responsible for respiratory
ailments, viral infections, and food poisoning. But as serious
as this may be, it seems to take a back seat to the physical damage
caused by birds. Birds cause millions of dollars in property damage
each year defacing buildings and structures with droppings, and
nesting materials, that at first glance, give buildings an unsightly
appearance. But the real damage is caused by the high uric acid
content of their droppings, which can eat through metal, paint,
fabric, and other structural materials. Their nests and droppings
are also blamed for thousands of clogged drains every year, some
of which actually cause roofs to collapse when rainwater can not
escape.
There are companies
that will try to solve bird problems with products like sticky
gels that can actually cause as much damage to buildings as the
birds, or they use poisons irresponsibly and end up killing non-target
birds which can bring a wrath of bad PR to your business. These
solutions are temporary at best, and environmentally irresponsible
at worst. Knowledgeable companies like GOOD Riddance Inc. use
an integrated approach to achieve long term environmentally friendly
solutions.

Our recommendations
The key to a successful
bird control program is to make desirable areas less attractive
to pest birds, or better yet, make improvements and modifications
to the areas so they are completely in-accessible to birds. Birds
seek easily accessible areas, that are protected from the elements
to nest, loaf, or oversee feeding areas. The better a building
provides these components, the more attracted pest birds will
be to it. The following is a list of procedures that are usually
followed on a full scale bird control job.
Flock Dispersal:
Before any cleaning and modifications can be made to site,
it is usually necessary to first remove the birds from the site.
This is accomplished by employing one of the following methods
depending on the pest bird species; stress baiting, trapping,
visual and sound scare devices, and very rarely shooting.
Cleaning and disinfecting:
To remove the possible health risks present at the site, it
is thoroughly cleaned and disinfected, removing nesting materials,
eliminating unhealthy parasites, washing the site down, and sanitizing
the area.
Bird proofing
product installation: In all cases the exclusion products
we use are considered permanent and made from the highest quality,
long lasting materials, like UV protected plastics, high grade
stainless steel, and polyethylene netting. They are also considered
non-lethal and non-injurious to birds and humans. Depending on
the site to be modified, many products are available to keep the
birds out, from netting to stainless steel needle strips.
